Our people shaping solutions
Engaging employees
Asking our staff what they think
Evaluating how we're doing as an organisation is an important part of making sure we've got the right people management strategies in place. In 2004-05 we asked Treasury staff to tell us what they thought about working for Treasury. A total of 1,241 staff completed the staff census. The results demonstrated improved performance across a number of people management categories compared to 2001 census results and public sector benchmarks.
Improvements were demonstrated in several key areas including role clarity, workplace morale and participative decision making. Room for improvement was identified in recruitment and selection practices. During 2005-06, Treasury will be implementing a range of strategies to address the issues raised in the staff census.
Improving internal communication
In 2004-05, we undertook a number of projects to improve internal communication and knowledge sharing in Treasury. We enhanced our internal corporate communication through the electronic newsletter Treasury Portfolio News to ensure our employees are receiving relevant, timely information about activities in Treasury. The upgrade included a new corporate identity to ensure a consistent message is delivered to all staff. Each office also provided regular information updates via email to staff.
This year, one of our major initiatives was completing phase one of the redevelopment of our intranet site. This redevelopment has turned our intranet site into an interactive business tool, where people will be able to access all information from one spot, get updates on news and information and share project information across Treasury. The change has meant that for the first time, all staff in Treasury are connected through one intranet.
