Strategic business priorities Highlights The year ahead
Maintain and enhance rigorous economic and social research agendas relating to the economic and social advancement of the State, involving partnerships with government, industry and universities. Commenced the second round of research into the drivers of productivity in the Queensland economy. Produce a report on productivity in the Queensland economy covering Queensland's productivity performance, the drivers and enablers of productivity, and analysis and information useful to considering future policy options.

Maintain and enhance a suite of economic and social models, methodologies and standards, promoting their availability, transparency and use across Government and the general community, in support of the Queensland Government's strategic policies.

Completed economy-wide modelling, in particular a review of Productivity Commission modelling on the National Reform Agenda. Focus our economic modelling capacity to support policy development with respect to emissions trading.
Increase the provision of high-quality statistical information products and services which contribute to the transparency, accountability and operational efficiency of Government. Finalised the Queensland Government Population Projections to 2051 publication. Using rebased Census 2006 data, review and update the official population projections.
Developed and delivered four agency-specific statistical information systems. Enhance existing statistical information systems and develop a range of new statistical information systems for Government agencies.
Improve statistical coordination and policy across Government through leadership of significant statistical initiatives, contributing to whole-of-Government and national improvements in statistical quality. Finalised a whole-of-Government standard framework for information licensing. Complete the cost benefit analysis and business case for a whole-of-Government Information Licensing Framework for Queensland.
Finalised the state wide awareness campaign for the national Census
of Population and Housing to maximise Queensland's population count and to improve the quality of the Census data.
Develop and implement statistical products and services based on Census 2006 data releases.
Enhance statistical survey capabilities, including implementing large-scale surveys and improvements in statistical services and methodologies for the collection of data and evaluation of programs. Completed the Computers for Teachers Trial Evaluation project, which evaluated Education Queensland's trial of 1,500 laptop computers provided to primary and secondary teachers. Develop value-added analytical services to complement survey capabilities.

Analysis: Queensland's population is projected to age significantly, particularly in the older age groups. This trend will have implications for the delivery of services such as health care.
