3.5 Brief CBRC on agency Budget submissions (DPC and Treasury)
Treasury provides agencies with a template for Budget submissions each year. These Budget submissions provide the Cabinet Budget Review Committee (CBRC) with information about funding and service delivery issues for individual agencies and cross-agency initiatives.
Additionally, agencies prepare submissions whenever they request a change to their fiscal limit, whether that is to:
-
enhance an output or service already provided
-
provide a new output or service
-
propose a new revenue or savings option, or
-
seek a capital investment.
Governance
Budget submissions are approved by Ministers prior to their submission, through Treasury, to CBRC. Treasury Analysts, in consultation with Policy Officers from the Department of Premier and Cabinet, prepare briefs for CBRC on agencies' submissions.
Timing
Treasury advises agencies of the due date for Budget submissions early in the Budget process. This will vary from year to year, but, for a June Budget, is likely to be in January.
