3.6 Make resource allocation decisions and advise outcomes (CBRC)

Once individual Ministers have met with the Cabinet Budget Review Committee (CBRC) to advocate their submissions (process 4.3 refers), Treasury provides updated recommended positions to CBRC.

A CBRC 'wrap-up' meeting provides an opportunity for CBRC to consider agencies' submissions as a whole, and to make final decisions regarding allocations.

Following CBRC's decisions, the Treasurer writes to all Ministers and the Under Treasurer writes to all Accountable Officers, to advise them of CBRC decisions relevant to their portfolio or agency.

Governance

The Cabinet Budget Review Committee are the only body charged with the authority to make resource allocation decisions on behalf of Government. The Treasurer and Under Treasurer will advise Ministers and Chief Executive Officers (respectively) in writing of those decisions.

Timing

The timing of this process is dependent on the timing of the State Budget. Based on a June Budget, this process is likely to occur in April.

Next step: 3.7 Update whole-of-Government Forward Estimates (Treasury)

Previous step: 3.5 Brief CBRC on agency Budget submissions (DPC and Treasury)
