4.5 Prepare and finalise Budget and other documentation (Agencies)
While Treasury has overall responsibility for the production of Budget documentation, agencies play a vital role in their preparation. Agencies' contributions range from providing data for inclusion in the documentation, to preparing the entire Ministerial Portfolio Statement for their agency.
Treasury provides agencies with templates and guidelines for agencies to complete for those Budget papers that rely on agencies' input. These include:
- BP3: the Capital Statement, which presents an overview of proposed capital projects for each agency in a budget year.
- Ministerial Portfolio Statements (MPS), which provide an overview of strategies and achievements, and details of outputs and financial statements for agencies within each Minister's portfolio and for the Legislative Assembly.
- Departmental Highlights, which provides a summary of Budgeted initiatives of each department.
- Regional Budget Statements, which outline the Government's ongoing investment in the regions and funding highlights for the budget year.
Governance
The Under Treasurer will seek input from each Accountable Officer in the preparation of these statements.
Timing
Timing will vary, depending on the timing of the Budget.
Further information
Treasury will issue guidelines and, where necessary templates, to agencies each year.
