The key objective of National Competition Policy is to develop a more open and integrated Australian market that limits anti-competitive conduct and removes the special advantages previously enjoyed by government business activities, where it is in the public interest to do so.
Treasury is responsible for coordinating preparation of Queensland's annual report to the National Competition Council (NCC) on the State's progress in meeting its National Competition Policy-related reform obligations. The annual report is required to be provided to the NCC by 31 March each year, based on reforms implemented in the previous calendar year. The NCC is required to provide its assessment to the Federal Treasurer by 30 June, including any recommendations for reductions in the annual competition payments provided for under the Agreement to Implement National Competition Policy and Related Reforms.
