Our student and graduate employment programs are designed for students completing their studies, and recent graduates of undergraduate and postgraduate studies. There are three programs available:

  • Scholarship program: for students in their second-last year of study who are completing an undergraduate degree at a recognised Queensland university.
  • Vacation program: for business students who want to participate in short-term placements during the summer and winter semester breaks.
  • Graduate program: for recent graduates across a range of business disciplines.

Scholarship program

Treasury’s scholarship program is a two-year program that provides employment opportunities for students in their second-last year of study. Students receive financial assistance for their educational expenses as well as a paid work placement.

What does the program include?

  • Financial assistance towards educational expenses.
  • Twelve weeks’ paid work experience placement for each year of the scholarship.
  • Placement in Treasury’s graduate program at the completion of the scholarship.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking applications from the following disciplines:

  • economics
  • public policy
  • project management
  • accounting
  • finance
  • commerce
  • law
  • statistics and mathematics.

Your selection for the scholarship program will be based on:

  • your academic achievement
  • your interpersonal skills and capacity to meet the key capabilities
  • the personal qualities you demonstrate during the recruitment process.

Eligibility

To be eligible for our GRADStart Scholarship Program, you must be:

  • in your second-last year of study when you join the program
  • completing an undergraduate degree at a recognised Queensland university
  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or a permanent resident. International students are not eligible.

All nominated applicants will be required to provide written consent to criminal history checks.

Vacation employment program

Treasury offers short-term placements to university students (across a range of disciplines) in both winter and summer semester breaks.

The program is an excellent opportunity for you to see the diversity of services that Treasury provides to the government and the community. You will also have the opportunity to meet new people and build networks to help you with your career options.

We are able to offer flexible working hours as we understand that individual students have a number of commitments outside of study and we will try to accommodate these. For example, you can work full-time for two weeks or two days a week over four weeks.

Who are we looking for?

Positions vary from year to year, depending on business requirements. All students are welcome to apply but business disciplines are particularly relevant, especially:

  • economics
  • public policy
  • project management
  • accounting
  • law
  • commerce
  • finance
  • mathematics and statistics.

Applications

Applications for the vacation employment program are usually accepted in May and October each year.

Details of the vacancies available will be published at this time through the Queensland Government Graduate Portal. You will be required to submit your resume, academic transcript and a letter of application. A separate application will need to be submitted for each vacancy you wish to be considered for.

Graduate program

Our graduate program is a 12-month program during which you will work in different business areas, participate in training and development, and build your own internal and external networks.

Who are we looking for?

Treasury is a diverse organisation offering an exciting range of employment opportunities for recent graduates. We encourage applications for business graduates, but particularly graduates of the following disciplines:

In addition to your technical/professional knowledge, you will also be assessed in a number of desirable business attributes, such as problem solving, business acumen, drive for results, building relationships, self-motivation and written communication.

Eligibility

Treasury’s GRADStart Program is designed for recent tertiary graduates. While the minimum requirement is a bachelor degree, we also encourage applicants who have recently completed or are currently completing postgraduate studies.

To be eligible for our 2016 graduate program you must:

  • be an Australian citizen; or live in Australia and have permission, under a Commonwealth law, to work and remain in Australia indefinitely
  • have completed graduate study before the start of the program (or within the last two years). For example:

  • Bachelor of Finance with expected completion in November 2015
  • Bachelor of Economics completed November 2013 and currently completing Master of Commerce with expected completion in November 2015
  • Bachelor of Law / Bachelor of Arts with expected completion in June 2016
  • Bachelor of Business completed June 2009 and currently completing Master of Commerce with expected completion in June 2016
