Right to information
There are several ways to access information held by Queensland Treasury.
We are committed to providing access to information held by us, unless on balance it is contrary to the public interest to provide that information.
The Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act):
- makes information held by the Government available
- provides equal access to it across all sectors of the community
- provides appropriate protection for individuals’ privacy.
The Right to Information process is not for general information or for answers to your questions. We may not be able to give you access to all the documents you request, as some documents are exempt from release.
If we refuse access to the information you have asked for, you may be able to seek a review of the decision. See the Office of the Information Commissioner for details.
You can apply for documents by submitting an online access application form.
Is there a fee to make an application?
All Right to Information (non-personal) applications have an initial fee. This fee cannot be waived. The application fee is payable by credit card. The application fee for Right to Information applications must be paid before your application can be processed. There is no application fee for applications that are seeking your personal information only.
In addition to the Right to Information application fee (for non-personal applications), you may be charged for:
- processing (if your application takes longer than five hours to process)
- access to documents (no access charges are payable if documents are provided electronically).
Find more information on fees and charges.
If you are unable to use this online process, please contact us as below.
Under the Right to Information Act 2009 you may apply to amend documents containing personal information where you believe that the relevant information is inaccurate, misleading, out of date or incomplete. While there is no application fee, evidence of identity must be provided.
Find the RTI Personal Information Amendment Application on the Right to Information website.
We facilitate the proactive release of certain information to the public through administrative release. Administrative release refers to the release of government-held information without the need for a formal request under the RTI Act.
If your request for information relates to the Queensland Revenue Office including the State Penalty and Enforcement Registry, contact Queensland Revenue Office in the first instance. If the information you seek is not readily available, you can make an Right to Information application for any information we hold.
Our publication scheme describes and categorises information routinely available from Queensland Treasury and usually free of charge.
Our disclosure log has information previously released through Right to Information applications.
