Treasury walks the talk with over 84 million steps globally!

Queensland Treasury has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence by claiming victory in the interdepartmental 10,000 Steps Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

Over 26 days in September, a total of 335 Treasury staff members laced up their walking shoes, forming 20 enthusiastic teams, making this the biggest internal engagement activity for staff. Together, they achieved an impressive collective total of 84,210,405 steps.

Competing against the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and the Public Service Commission, Treasury staff have proven their dedication to achieving targets extending beyond spreadsheets and economic forecasts.

Treasury’s continued dominance in the 10,000 Steps Tournament is a testament to the department’s culture of teamwork and determination.

Among them, were the aptly named winning team Stepwise Linear Obsession from the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office. True to their analytical roots, this team took a calculated approach to success, employing mathematical modelling to determine the exact number of steps required to secure victory.

The competition saw staff stepping out, not just across Queensland, but across the globe. From the bustling streets of London to the serene landscapes of Japan, Treasury walkers clocked up steps across the globe to contribute to the goal.

Even furry friends got involved, as pets joined their owners for daily walks as well as recruiting family members to get out and moving.

Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding effort, and a special shout-out to Stepwise Linear Obsession for their innovative approach to securing the win.
