Net zero roadmap

The Queensland Government is committed to net zero emissions by 2050.

A credible and affordable pathway will help:

  • maintain Queensland’s competitiveness
  • support access to international capital markets
  • manage emerging international trade risks
  • unlock private sector investment.

Queensland’s emissions are currently at 35% below 2005 levels, exceeding our first interim emission reduction target of 30% by 2030.

The Queensland Government will develop an overarching net zero roadmap that outlines the overall vision and priorities to achieve net zero by 2050. This will also set out our adaptation priorities to ensure industries and communities are resilient.

Emissions reduction plans

The government will develop 6 sector emissions reduction plans to ensure all industries are engaged in realising a net zero future.

These sectors are:

  • energy
  • resources
  • agriculture and land
  • transport
  • industry
  • built environment.

Read more about the emissions reduction plans in the program for making emissions reduction plans. The program fulfils the requirements under section 11 of the Clean Economy Jobs Act 2024.

The program was updated on 9 June 2025, and as required by the Act, includes a notice describing changes.
