Diversity and inclusion

We are committed to fostering a safe, healthy and supportive workplace where our people have a sense of belonging and can bring their whole self to work.

At Queensland Treasury we embrace and continue to build an inclusive, diverse and accessible workplace that is reflective of the community we serve.

Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan sets out our commitment to ensuring the equity and diversity of our workforce and fostering an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to achieve their potential.

We recognise:

  • that all Queenslanders benefit when a diverse range of people contribute to achieving Queensland Treasury’s vision of a strong economy with affordable, reliable and sustainable power for all Queenslanders
  • that we are strengthened by being able to draw on the experiences and perspectives of a workforce with diversity in age, life stage, caring responsibility, gender identity, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, disability, First Nations, cultural background and ethnicity
  • First Nations peoples, cultures, and contributions and the importance of a culturally safe workplace through offering Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural capability development to all employees
  • the contributions of our employees with disability
  • the importance of considering reasonable adjustments in the workplace to create a more inclusive and accommodating environment. This may involve supporting flexible work arrangements, modifying physical workspaces or providing assistive technologies to support employees with specific needs.

Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan includes initiatives that support our Strategic Workforce Plan as well as our Reframing the Relationship Plan and Disability Service Plan.  Our commitment to providing a diverse and inclusive work environment also supports the Queensland Multicultural Action Plan and the Queensland Public Sector LGBTIQ+ Action Plan.

Disability service plan

Our Disability Service Plan 2024-2027 outlines the actions we will take to deliver services and products that are inclusive, uphold the human rights of people with disability, promote choice and participation, and address barriers people with disability may experience. As part of our ongoing commitment, we report progress and achievements annually, read the Disability Service Plan 2023-24 Progress Report.

Multicultural action plan

Our 2023-24 Multicultural Action Plan Annual Progress Report reports on the progress made towards outcomes identified in the final year of the third Queensland Multicultural Action Plan (PDF, 3.4 MB) which spanned 2022–23 to 2023–24.

In July 2024, we commenced working towards contributing to the fourth Queensland Multicultural Action Plan (PDF, 2.1 MB) which presents the actions the Queensland Government will take from 2024-25 to 2026-27 to achieve the multicultural policy priorities and ensure government services are fully accessible to people who have difficulty communicating in English.

Leading our inclusive workplace

Equity, diversity and inclusion steering committee

Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee provides guidance and direction to the diversity and inclusion strategy across Queensland Treasury. It includes senior leaders from across Queensland Treasury, and representatives from our Diversity and Inclusion Employee Networks including employees with lived experience of disability, neurodivergence, cultural diversity, LGBTIQ+, and those who are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Peer networks

We have a range of peer networks which aim to foster a sense of community, promote diversity and actively encourage inclusion across our department. Our employee-led networks are supported by Queensland Treasury executive champions and are open to all employees, giving our people the opportunity to connect with colleagues with shared or similar lived experiences or who are allies. Reflecting the diversity of our workforce, our networks also provide a welcoming and supportive space where our people can actively contribute to the direction of our workplace diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Supporting careers in government

Our commitment to building a diverse workforce starts with inclusive recruitment – treating all applicants equitably and making reasonable adjustments to support applicants at all stages of the process.
