Redflow

The Queensland Critical Minerals and Battery Technology Fund is helping leading battery company Redflow Limited fast-track the development of a large-scale product that it plans to manufacture at scale.

Development of Redflow’s battery design, that is based on its environmentally friendly zinc-based flow-battery technology, and construction of an operational prototype, will help boost the company’s growth trajectory in the booming energy storage market.

The Queensland Government is supporting Redflow with a $1.12 million grant to fast-track the company’s battery development work and a feasibility study for the potential establishment of a manufacturing facility in Queensland. This will help address the domestic demand for long-duration energy storage technologies and act as a core hub for international markets.

Redflow has been selected to supply their zinc-bromide battery technology into a growing number of commercial battery installation and development projects in Australia and internationally. While Redflow is currently manufacturing its products in Thailand, the facility is expected to reach capacity in 2026. The company is evaluating plans to establish a new facility that will enable volume manufacturing and provide a much larger capacity to meet growing domestic and global demand.

The Queensland Government’s industry plans and investment incentive programs are helping position the state to become a global leader in the clean energy technology so essential for the world’s decarbonisation.
